5 Black Girls The Slayed Off The Runway at #NYFW
It’s a wrap!
Twice a year, thousands of patrons flock to NYC to exist in the excitement that is New York Fashion Week. During my time as student at the Fashion Institute of Technology, I was able to be amongst those thousands. From signing up to volunteer to work behind the scenes, to saying I was a member of the FIT newspaper, I wanted to be apart of the madness by any means necessary! Now, 26 with a work schedule that doesn’t recognize NYFW as the national holiday it is, I unfortunately have not had the pleasure to attend in some years (don’t worry, that will all change in 2020). But, with the help of our favorite be-everywhere-without-being-there friend Instagram, I was able to capture the essence of the affairs from the comfort of my living room.
Ever since my days amongst the Fashion Week Madness, I was never really a fan of the high-end shows, like Chanel, Versace, Vera Wang. I’ve always been into the shows from the—lets just be blunt about it—black designers. Not that the high-end designers work isn’t admirable, but theres something about Black fashion designers and the shows they put on that is just in your face, unapologetic and memorable. And the same can be said for the attendees of these shows, Black women and men suited and booted, carryin’ and slayin’ the shows and the streets of NYC. Through social media, I have found my 5 favorite Black girls that I personally feel dominated the scene at last week’s events. Take a look.
